On February 17th, 2019, Cinema Club screened BIRDS OF PASSAGE, courtesy of The Orchard. After the screening, we spoke with director Cristina Gallegos and co-writer Maria Arias about their research into Wayuu traditions and their bold vision for a drug war movie that poetically elides the sensationalism inherent to the genre.

On October 21st, 2018, Cinema Club screened PROSPECT, courtesy of Gunpowder & Sky. After the screening, we spoke with directors Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell about realizing their celebrated sci-fi universe on a limited budget.
In August of 2018, we paired Dennis Hopper’s THE LAST MOVIE with Nick Ebeling’s increasingly prescient documentary ALONG FOR THE RIDE. Ebeling joined us to discuss Hopper’s legacy, in a roundtable with film critic Fernando Croce and Cinema Club emcees Sara Vizcarrondo and Alejandro Adams. The San Jose Mercury News and Silicon Valley Metro took notice of our considerable efforts (view this post for links).
On July 15th, 2018, Cinema Club screened WE THE ANIMALS, courtesy of The Orchard. Graphic designer Dorian West joined us for a Q&A and VFX demonstration, revealing his process for creating dozens of effects shots for the film.
In June of 2018, Cinema Club teamed with PBS and the County of Santa Clara to present a screening of DARK MONEY along with a panel discussion including subjects of the film Ann Ravel and John Adams. This event, which sold out well in advance, was attended by state senators and local political icons such as Ron Diridon. The San Francisco Chronicle covered the screening after the fact, quoting Ann Ravel regarding the impact of our event.
On June 17th, 2018, Cinema Club screened CUSTODY, courtesy of Kino Lorber. Director Xavier Legrand was unable to join us via phone for a Q&A but fielded our questions via email in advance, facilitating a rich audience discussion after the screening.
